The 2021 NCAA Tournament is headed to the second round, and as is usually the case, we’re getting a handful of double digit seeds advancing. It remains to be seen how long the Cinderellas will stick around, but a double digit seed has advanced to the Sweet 16 each of the past 12 tournaments. The last time it did not happen was 2007, when No. 11 seeds Winthrop and VCU advanced to the second round but were then eliminated.
A double digit seed has never won the whole tournament, but we’ve had one 10 seed and four 11 seeds advance to the Final Four. The last such result was in 2018 when No. 11 Loyola Chicago advanced before losing to No. 3 Michigan State in the National Semifinals.
We’ll be tracking all the double digit seeds as they look to make some noise in the Big Dance.

UPDATE: Notable upset stat!
Here’s a wow. Per @CBSSportsHQ research team, this is the first NCAA Tournament ever to have at least four teams seeded No. 13 or worse make it into the second round. Historic.
