The No. 12 seed Oregon State Beavers will play the No. 4 seed Oklahoma State Cowboys in a Midwest region matchup in the second round Sunday. This game will tip-off at 9:40 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University.

No. 4 Oklahoma State: 21-8 (11-7 Big 12):

First round result: 69-60 win over No. 13 seed Liberty
KenPom rating: 30 Overall, 50 Offense, 23 Defense
NET ranking: 29, (10-6 VS Quad 1)
Leading scorer: Cade Cunningham 20.6 ppg
Key stat: 38.6 rebounds per game (40th in the nation)

The Cowboys were down by as many as six points in the first half, but still prevailed with a monstrous 42-point second half to defeat the Flames 69-60 on Friday night. Freshman Cade Cunningham struggled in his NCAA Tournament, but still scored 15 points (3-14 FG, 2-8 3pt) and grabbed four rebounds.

With Cunningham struggling, Oklahoma State looked towards Avery Anderson III. Anderson III scored a game-high 19 points on an efficient 7-of-13 shooting from the field, while adding eight assists and four steals. The Cowboys did a good job defensively, holding the Flames to only 38.2% shooting from the field and forcing them into 18 turnovers. They also made life tough for Liberty’s leading scorer Darius McGhee, who had 12 points (4-13 FG, 2-8 3pt) and five rebounds.

No. 12 Oregon State: 18-12 (10-10 Pac-12)

First round result: 70-56 win over No. 5 seed Tennessee
KenPom rating: 72 Overall, 58 Offense, 97 Defense
NET ranking: 91 (6-5 VS Quad 1)
Leading scorer: Ethan Thompson 15.3 ppg
Key stat: 75.8% from free-throw line (38th in the country)

The No. 12 seed Oregon State Beavers pulled off the upset over the No. 5 seed Tennessee Volunteers on Friday. The Beavers had four starters score in double figures, led by center Roman Silva with 16 points on a perfect 8-of-8 from the field.

Ethan Thompson added a double-double consisting of 13 points and 10 rebounds. He also had six assists against the Vols. Oregon State had 20 assists and shot 48.2% from the field and 47.6% from behind the arc. The Beavers’ defense also held the Vols to 33.3% shooting from the field and 19.2% from three-point range.

Oregon State will need that same type of offensive efficiency and defense to slow down the Cowboys, who’ve been one of the better teams in college basketball.

The Pick

Against The Spread Pick: Oregon State +6
Point total pick: Over 142
Pick to Win: Oklahoma State

Oregon State is just playing lights out basketball right now, while the first game in the NCAA Tournament bubble was not the peak Oklahoma State we’ve seen earlier this season. It’s just two teams going in different directions, and we’ll take the rising over the falling.
