A number of rookies could take MLB by storm this year, and we’re just under a month away from opening day. While plenty of first-year players are capable of turning heads in the American League, the public has placed an overwhelming amount of money on one option at DraftKings Sportsbook. Let’s break down how the betting splits for the top candidates are shaking out.

Seattle Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic (+800) has the second-best odds but commands a massive 29% of the handle to go along with 13% of the total bets. The 21-year-old outfielder is looking to follow in the footsteps of teammate Kyle Lewis, who was named 2020 AL ROTY. Kelenic is trailed by Chicago White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn (+3000), who commands 14% of the handle and total bets. Vaughn is considered a long shot at this point but could play an important role for a team with World Series aspirations. The public has placed more money on the White Sox to win the World Series than any other team so far.

Odds-on favorite Randy Arozarena (+400) is one of three contenders with 9% of the handle. The Tampa Bay Rays outfielder has 8% of the total bets. Arozarena was dominant during Tampa Bay’s postseason run last year and helped power the Rays to the World Series after playing in just 23 regular-season games. If he can replicate last year’s performance, it’ll be hard for anybody to keep up with him.
