The 2021 March Madness odds have been live for about 18 hours, and the punters are putting down positions on their favorite teams already. Let’s see how the bets are stacking up on the first round games at DraftKings Sportsbook.
The No. 12 Winthrop Eagles are six-point underdogs but a popular choice against the No. 5 Villanova Wildcats as bettors look to find the 12-5 upset that seems to happen so often in March Madness. Right now the run-and-gun Eagles are getting 74% of the action and 80% of the bets at DraftKings Sportsbook over the plodding Wildcats, who will be without the services of star point guard Collin Gillespie most likely.
Also there’s not a ton of faith in the No. 11 Utah State Aggies out here in the betting community, as No. 6 Texas Tech is receiving 83% of the handle and 89% of the bets in early trading. The Aggies lost 68-57 in the Mountain West Final to San Diego State, and despite having one of the best defenses in America, they shoot just 33.7% from three-point range. That’s not a great matchup for Chis Beard’s Red Raiders, who defend at a high-level as well by forcing a turnover on 23.8% of opponent possessions.
And if you’re wondering how Georgetown’s white-hot run in the Big East Tournament is translating to the wagerers, it’s quite well. Despite being a five-point underdog to No. 5 Colorado, Hoya Paranoia is receiving 67% of the action and 76% of the bets at DraftKings. The run of Patrick Ewing’s team in Madison Square Garden was capped with an all-time performance in a 73-48 win over Creighton, and makes them one of the scariest No. 12 seeds in the tournament. Colorado’s tough loss to Oregon State in the Pac-12 finale didn’t impress bettors nearly as much.
Here are the betting splits for the 2021 NCAA Tournament as of now from DraftKings Sportsbook:
