Free agent defensive lineman Shaq Barrett has found a new home, and a new opportunity to compete for a starting job. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Barrett, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Barrett was an important part of the Bucs’ defense throughout this past season’s Super Bowl run and was a valuable contributor to their dynamic pass rush. The 28-year-old tallied 57 tackles and 8 sacks in 2020 and led Tampa Bay in tackles for a loss (12.5). He’s proven that he can be a staple for an elite defense, and now he’ll get a chance to continue making impact plays for the Buccaneers as they try to run it back for another Super Bowl.
The team seems intent on keeping their core group of players together after taking how the Lombardi and Barrett is a key piece to their defense. With Chris Godwin, Lavonte Davis and now Barrett all returning, they’re off to a ggod start.
