The NCAA Tournament field is just about settled. Sunday will bring the last of the conference championship game automatic bids, and then it is down to determine the at-large teams. Well, not so much determining as announcing. By Sunday morning, the selection committee will likely have narrowed down the at-large candidates to just a handful of arguments remaining to be made.
The final decisions will be announced Sunday evening, March 14th during the annual Selection Sunday show aired on CBS. The program will air from 6 to 7 p.m. ET and a live stream will be available through CBS.com and Paramount Plus.
The tournament field includes 31 teams that earn an automatic bid by winning their conference tournament and 37 teams selected as at large bids. The 10-member selection committee decides on the at-large candidates by reviewing a multitude of stats and rankings. They then use all of that information to place the teams in an appropriate seeding spot.
Traditionally teams are assigned to different pods for the first round, located all around the country. The first two rounds take place in the pod and then 16 teams that advance to the Sweet 16 head to one of four regional sites. This year, the entire tournament is taking place in the state of Indiana, with most of the games tipping off in Indianapolis.
