Miami-UNC canceled due to tape of players at party

One of the stranger stories in college basketball this year sees the Hurricanes cancel a game because of what they saw on social media.

Just when you think the 2020-21 college basketball season can’t get any weirder.

The Miami Hurricanes have canceled their game scheduled for Monday night with the North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill because of videos on social media showing UNC players at a party without masks after the Heels 91-87 win over Duke Saturday night.

Here’s the video of the party from the Carolina campus newspaper The Daily Tar Heel: It’s NSFW for lyrics and middle fingers.

The players shown from the Tar Heels basketball team are Armando Bacot and Day’Ron Sharpe. UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz also said there would be consequences for those that would be partying after the rivalry victory.

Having seen this video, it’s understandable why Jim Larrañaga and his team might not want to take the court. There will also likely be accusations of ducking the game with the Hurricanes just 3-10 in the ACC this season and not in contention for any postsesaon play. But seeing that video could make anyone reticent to compete against people involved.

This seems to be the first game cancelation of the season related to social media. We’ll add updates and rescheduling information here.
