Report: Cardinals and Patrick Peterson to part ways

The Arizona Cardinals and star cornerback Patrick Peterson plan on parting ways this off-season, per Matt Verderame. Peterson has been one of the best shutdown corners in the league, but injuries have slowed him down of late.

At just 30-years old, Peterson should still find a good market, as top corners are hard to come by and we have seen older cornerbacks have resurgent second-half careers in new places lately.

Pro Football Focus ranks Peterson, who is an unrestricted free agent, as the 13th best free agent corner in the league. That’s not good, but is still a player likely to draw interest. Peterson has been a first-team All Pro three times and has been to eight Pro Bowls. He’s also still the Cardinals best corner.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, he will likely be somewhat overpaid in comparison to his recent production. Arizona is going to need to draft and acquire help in their secondary this offseason.
