Super Bowl 55 has wrapped up its first quarter, and it’s been a defensive battle. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead the Kansas City Chiefs 7-3. If you’re playing a Super Bowl squares contest, the first quarter squares were 7 for the Bucs and 3 for the Chiefs.
This quarter saw an evolving narrative. The defenses got off to a great start, bringing consistent pressure and giving us three straight punts. However, the offenses got things going in the back half of the quarter. Patrick Mahomes had a couple impressive deep balls his receivers couldn’t haul in, with one tipped away and one that bounced off Tyreek Hill’s face.
The Chiefs settled for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead, but then the Bucs quickly responded on their next drive. Tom Brady threw for 44 yards and Leonard Fournette rushed for 26 yards, capped by Brady finding Rob Gronkowski for an 8-yard touchdown.
