Multiple teams looking to trade for Sam Darnold

The Jets have the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Will they take a quarterback or stick with Sam Darnold. Many teams believe they are ready to trade their former first rounder.

The New York Jets have the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after winning just two games in 2020. That fact has quarterback hungry NFL teams looking for a discount on former No. 3 pick Sam Darnold, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Darnold went third in the 2018 NFL Draft, but hasn’t been able to make many strides, culminating in just two wins this season. Darnold hasn’t had much help and has shown flashes of strong play, which is why teams are calling about him, but 39 interceptions in 38 games played isn’t going to haul in a big ransom.

The question is, does new head coach Robert Saleh want to keep Darnold and grab a different position with that early pick? Maybe, but new coach often means new quarterback, especially coming off of three losing seasons.

We’ve seen Matthew Stafford already head to the Rams, with Jared Goff and picks going to the Detroit Lions. And now Carson Wentz looks like he might be heading to the Chicago Bears, and if not them, someone soon. Schefter reported that the Washington Football Team, the Indianapolis Colts, the Carolina Panthers, the San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Bears and others were in on Stafford and interested in Wentz. Those are the teams most-willing to make moves and we can expect that the Jets have received calls from some or all of these teams regarding Darnold.
