How to handle Patrick Mahomes injury heading into Super Bowl 2021

Patrick Mahomes is on the Chiefs final injury report for Super Bowl 55. We break down what it means for fantasy football and betting decisions.

Game day update: Mahomes will be fine to play in the Super Bowl, but he will likely have surgery on the turf toe injury that is slowing him to some degree. Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning that following the game, Mahomes will meet with a foot specialist to discuss his options. The thought is it will not heal on its own without surgery.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is good to go for Super Bowl 55. He’s been dealing with a bout of turf toe on his left foot, an injury which can be incredibly painful, but he was a full participant at practice all week leading up to the game. He’ll be a full go for Sunday’s championship tilt against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy/betting impact: Patrick Mahomes (toe)

Mahomes has been battling the toe injury since before the playoffs started. However, that injury doesn’t seem to have had much impact on his incredible playing ability. He was forced out of the Chiefs’ Divisional round game against the Browns with a concussion, leaving with 255 passing yards and one touchdown. Despite the toe, he threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns in the AFC Championship game against the Bills.

Last year’s Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes is the odds on favorite to win it again this year. The last time these two teams faced off, in Week 12 of the regular season, he threw a season-high 462 yards and three touchdowns.
