It’s hard to predict how much Sammy Watkins will be involved in Super Bowl LV considering he hasn’t been on the field for a single snap since Week 16. Plus, he didn’t play in the AFC title game after aggravating his calf injury prior to kickoff. However, the seven-year veteran practiced fully on Friday and is expected to suit up Sunday. As such, he might catch the Buccaneers off guard and help you hit on a couple of these props.

Although Watkins has failed to produce an exciting stat line since Week 1, he has operated as Kansas City’s No. 2 wideout whenever healthy. He’s been on the field at least 70% of the snaps in each of his past five games. He didn’t record more than four catches or 60 yards in any of those contests, but with the improvisational Patrick Mahomes, just being in the formation makes you a likely target on any play. The Buccaneers will probably sell out to slow down Tyreek Hill, who clowned Tampa Bay’s defense in Week 12. That might leave more open spaces for Watkins to settle into and become a safety blanket. He hasn’t scored since Week 5, but a Watkins TD would go a long way toward accomplishing the Chiefs’ ultimate goal of back-to-back NFL championships.

It would take a handful of events aligning to make this possible, but in what should be a pass-happy points fest, you could see Watkins getting some extra looks as the Bucs focus all of their attention on Hill and Travis Kelce. Sprinkle in a few missed tackles by Tampa Bay’s defense, and you’ve got the recipe for an MVP surprise. Granted, Watkins would probably have to score more than once to be considered, and he has done that in a game only six times in his career.
