Patrick Mahomes wiped away any worry over his scare with concussion protocols after posting 325 passing yards for three touchdowns in the AFC Conference Championship. With the Bills out of the way, Mahomes and the Chiefs will aim to defend their Super Bowl title against Tom Brady and the Bucs. There’s no question that Mahomes will be a key to success and a highly sought after DFS option, but can we justify his salary?
Fantasy Football analysis: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, $12,000
As the highest-priced player on the DraftKings Super Bowl slate, it’s clear that we’ll have to find creative ways to fit him in our lineups. Though considering he’s a cut above everyone else in terms of registering reliably high numbers, it is worth making it work. The reigning Super Bowl MVP has had only one game this season with a fantasy score under 20 DKFP (Week 7 against Denver). And while he hasn’t posted a 30+ point performance in the past six games, the last time he did was against Tampa Bay (35.28 DKFP on 462 passing yards and three TDs).
The game total currently sits at a whopping 56.5 points. With almost all of the offensive production flowing through Mahomes, we have to assume that he’ll be the fantasy beneficiary of the Chiefs’ 29.5 point implied team total. The Bucs have a strong defense, but not strong enough to completely squash the KC QB.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Find a way to pay the Patrick price and start Mahomes, though captaining him will make it difficult to fit in other reliable fantasy options.
