No. 16 Virginia Tech is amid a two-game winning streak and handed No. 14 Virginia its first ACC loss. It will look to secure a third straight victory against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Pittsburgh is looking to avoid losing a fourth straight game but sits in the middle of the pack in the ACC standings.
Virginia Tech (13-3, 7-2) is second to Virginia in the ACC standings and is only half a game back from the lead. Wofford transfer Keve Aluma has helped transform a Hokies team that finished in the bottom half of the conference last season and leads them in points (14.8), rebounds (7.6), and blocks (1.4) per game. He scored a season-high 29 points in his last game and should be the opposition’s primary concern on defense.
Pittsburgh (8-5, 4-4) has somehow managed to not play a ranked opponent yet this year. Four of the Panthers’ five losses on the season were by double-digits, so this could be a big win for the Hokies if the underdog isn’t at its best. Do-it-all forward Justin Champagnie leads Pittsburgh in points (20.1), rebounds (12.1), steals (1.5), and blocks (1.5) per game and will have to show up for this matchup.
