The St. Louis Cardinals have signed Adam Wainwright, taking the star pitcher off of the free agency market. Wainwright is signing a one-year contract worth $8 million.
Wainright has spent his entire career in St. Louis and has reached the highest of highs over his 15-year career. He’s a World Series champion, a three-time All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove winner and a Silver Slugger winner. He’s also led the NL in wins twice, in 2009 and 2013 and has finished in the top three in Cy Young voting four times, but has never won the award.
He has a career ERA OF 3.39, but hasn’t been as dominant as he used to be. His 2020 ERA was 3.15, but it has tended to hover in the low 4 range in the back half of his career.
Adam Wainwright was drafted by the Atlanta Braves but hasn’t played a single MLB game for any team other than the St Louis Cardinals.
