Baylor’s undefeated season ends at Kansas in Big 12 upset

The No. 2 Baylor Bears were expected to continue their undefeated season against the No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks, but a lackluster performance cost them perfection as Kansas won 71-58 on Saturday night at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas.

David McCormack shined for Kansas, scoring 20 points on 8-10 from the field. KU was 25-49 from the field, outrebounded Baylor 48-28, and held the Bears to just 6-26 from three-point range. On Senior Night, fourth-year guard Marcus Garrett had 14 points and seven rebounds at home in one of the biggest wins in his Jayhawks career.

Baylor was led by guard MaCio Teague, who scored 18 points but on 7-20 shooting. The difference was on the glass, a place where they usually succeed; they entered the game recovering 37.7% of their misses, good for fifth in Division I.

The Bears (18-1, 10-1 Big 12) still sit atop the conference standings, and will be the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. With three more Big 12 regular season matchups, plus the conference tournament, there are still plenty of opportunities for Scott Drew and his team to stay on the No. 1 line in the NCAA Tournament.

But during BU’s second game back after a three-week break because of COVID-19, they simply came up short.
