Report: J.J. Watt looking at Titans, Packers, Bills, with Raiders a dark horse

The market for J.J. Watt appears to be settling to a handful of teams. We break down the latest report.

It would appear we will not get a full Watt family reunion in 2021. Free agent edge rusher J.J. Watt will not be signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to John Clayton. The long-time NFL reporter is hearing the three teams where Watt is likely to land are the Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, or Buffalo Bills. Clayton also indicated the Raiders are a dark horse candidate.

The Titans and Raiders would stand to benefit the most from adding Watt. He would be a great addition to most any defense, but those two have more to improve than the Packers and Bills. Last year, the Raiders ranked 28th in overall defense and 10th in adjusted sack rate. The Titans ranked 29th and 11th, respectively. By comparison, the Bills ranked 12th and 5th in those two categories while the Packers ranked 17th and 6th.

By all accounts, Watt is looking to win a ring and cash a nice pay check wherever he ends up. All four teams are relatively tight against the salary cap, but room can be made if it would land them a player like Watt. The Bills and Packers are closer to Super Bowl contention, while the Titans are a clear step ahead of the Raiders.

While Watt is not the premier edge rusher he was in his prime, he is still a strong addition to any defense. The price will climb if these four remain in the mix.
