The Champions League will return on Tuesday and four teams are set to face off in the early afternoon. Athletico Madrid will face Chelsea while Lazio will take on Bayern Munich, and both matches are set to begin at 3:00 p.m. ET. We’ve identified a few betting options available on DraftKings Sportsbook for the matchup.
Atletico Madrid to beat Chelsea (+170)
Chelsea is set to play its first Champions League game under Thomas Tuchel. The Blues are still experimenting with their formations and lineups and are up against an Athletico side that’s elite on both sides of the ball. Athletico sits atop La Liga thanks to a defense that’s conceded the least goals in the league. Only Barcelona has scored more goals than Athletico in La Liga. Chelsea’s back three will be tested by the opposition’s offensive firepower. Timo Werner’s lack of goal production doesn’t bode well for Chelsea’s goal-scoring opportunities against an elite defense.
Robert Lewandowski to score vs. Lazio (+280)
The Bundesliga’s top goalscorer has made the net bulge three times in six Champions League matches. Bayern has amassed 18 goals and its abundance of talent on offense will create plenty of chances. Expect Bayern to keep firing away until its most reliable finisher puts one away.
Bayern O59.5% possession (-118)
Lazio has lost the possession battle in four of its six Champions League matches because of its tendency to stay in its own half in an attempt to play counter-attacking soccer. Bayern has commanded at least 60% possession four times in six games. Athletico was able to hold Bayern under that mark twice, but Lazio doesn’t come close in terms of offensive talent. I think the floor for the Reds is 65% possession given the dominance they’ve showcased so far.
