How and what to watch for Iowa State vs. No. 2 Baylor

Baylor hasn’t played a game since Feb. 2 due to COVID-19 protocols.

The No. 2 Baylor Bears get back in action Tuesday against the Iowa State Cyclones after two weeks off due to COVID-19 protocols.

This is probably the best possible scenario for Baylor after not playing a game since February 2. They come back into action against by far the worst team in the Big 12. Iowa State hasn’t won a game since before Christmas and very few of their losses have been very close. The Cyclones (2-16, 0-13 Big 12) are scoring just 65 points per game and give up close to 80 on average. KenPom has them ranked as the 162nd best team in the nation, which is near the bottom for power conference teams. Rasir Bolton is averaging just over 15 points per game and is leading the team in virtually every other category as well, so if Baylor can stop him, they’ll have very little production for the rest of the game.

Baylor (17-0, 9-0 Big 12) has been a total wrecking ball during this season. They have utterly dominated everybody they’ve played. The Bears are scoring nearly 90 points per game and are giving up just 62 to their opponents. KenPom has them ranked as the 4th-best offense in the country and the 6th-best defense, which is a lethal combination. Jared Butler leads the team with 17 points per game, but they have four players averaging in double figures. Overall, they’re shooting an absurd 50% from the field.

KenPom is giving the Bears a 99% chance to win this game.

  • The total has gone over in all of Baylor’s last five games.

The Best Bet

Iowa State is almost certain to lose this game, as it’s winless in the Big 12 this year. The Cyclones have lacked consistency against top-ranked teams and, but matched up pretty well against Baylor earlier this year and only fell short by 11 points. The Bears should secure a double-digit win but most of their blowout victories came before conference play.

Pick: Iowa State +23
