The New York Jets have been in rebuilding mode for a while now and with Robert Saleh taking over as head coach and the team holding the No. 2 overall draft pick, the rebuild continues. But, will quarterback Sam Darnold be a part of their hoped turnaround? The Jets apparently are going to do their due diligence in scouting this year’s quarterback crop before making any determinations on Darnold, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Darnold hasn’t had the best supporting cast, but has also been with the team three seasons now and has gotten statistically worse. Saleh likely wants to hitch his tenure to a rookie quarterback that hasn’t had three seasons of getting beat up and regressing, but there is a chance he is really down on the non-Trevor Lawrences in the draft.
There has been reported interest in Darnold from teams across the league, so they could get something out of him while giving fans some hope with a new quarterback. In the end, that is likely what will happen.
