The New York Yankees and Brett Gardner will be reunited for at least one more season. The outfielder signed a one-year contract worth $4 million, per Jon Heyman. The deal includes an option for the 2022 season.
Gardner is entering his 14th season with the Yankees, who drafted him in the third round of the 2005 amateur draft. Last year, his slash line over 49 games was .223/.354/.392 with five home runs and 15 RBIs. The prior year, he played in 141 games and finished with a slash line of .251/.325/.503.
The Yankees starting outfield will consist of Clint Frazier, Aaron Judge, and Aaron Hicks. With Giancarlo Stanton working primarily as the designated hitter, Gardner will be the team’s fourth outfielder.
