The 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series is underway, and the Super Start Batteries 188 is set to run at the Daytona Road Course on Saturday. The race starts at 5 p.m. ET and will air on FS1.
Austin Cindric won the 2020 Xfinity Series championship and kicked off 2021 with a victory at the Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300 last weekend. He’ll kick off Saturday’s race in a great spot, as he’ll be in the front row with pole sitter Brett Moffitt. Moffit wasn’t far behind Cindric on Saturday. He finished second to Cindric on Saturday but wasn’t a factor in last year’s series. That could change this time around. Moffit and Cindric will be trailed by Jeb and Harrison Burton in the second row. The two cousins finished third and fourth at the Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300.
The starting lineup for this race and most of the races this season will involve a performance-metric formula created last year due to COVID-19 pandemic. NASCAR will have some qualifying this season, but the ongoing pandemic will keep it limited to just a handful of the bigger races. The formula will take recent performance into account to determine the starting grid, and will apply across the three circuits (Cup, Xfinity, Truck). Here are the factors that go into determining the order.
35 percent: Team owner points ranking
25 percent: Driver’s finishing position from the previous race
25 percent: Car owner’s finishing position from the previous race
15 percent: Fastest lap from the previous race
Here’s a look at the starting grid for Saturday’s race.
