Titans are non-committal on re-signing Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith

On Tuesday afternoon, Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson was asked about the status of wide receiver Corey Davis and tight end Jonnu Smith, who are both impending unrestricted free agents this offseason.

Robinson mentioned that he had the same conversation with offensive lineman Jack Conklin, who left in free agency last year and signed with the Cleveland Brown. “We’ve asked you here and we’re going to be competitive and try to keep you,” the Titans GM said (h/t Pro Football Talk). “But at the end of the day, you’re going to have a decision to make if you have suitors with other teams.”

If we read more into Robinson’s comments, we can rightfully assume that neither player will be back, which would be sizable losses to the Titans’ offense.

Davis, who was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has not been a No. 1 wide receiver in his tenure with the Titans. Tennessee declined Davis’s fifth-year option last offseason, but he still turned in a solid 2020 campaign. The 6-foot-3 wideout posted career-highs across the board with 65 receptions (92 targets) for 984 yards and five touchdowns.

As for Smith, he established himself as a top-15 tight end in the NFL over the last two seasons. In 2020, the 25-year-old also had a career-year with 41 receptions (65 targets) for 448 yards and eight touchdowns.
