The Denver Broncos are expected to decline the 2021 option on Von Miller’s contract between now and March 16th, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano. 2021 is the final year of Miller’s contract and includes $17.5 million in base salary and a $500,000 workout bonus. The team has until March 16th to decline the option. If they do not decline it, $7 million of the salary becomes guaranteed, per Over The Cap.
If the two sides cannot figure out a resolution, the move would make Miller an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career. Miller missed the 2020 season with an ankle injury that involved a dislocated tendon.
In 2019, Miller had eight sacks over 15 games. His previous sack low was five in 2013 when he played nine games. He has otherwise had double digit sacks every season of his career. It’s unlikely he’ll secure $18 million per year on a deal, but the market should be a healthy one, especially given the teams that won’t be able to land a deal with J.J. Watt.
