Carolina Panthers 2021 free agency outlook

The Carolina Panthers have 17 unrestricted free agents and four restricted free agents going into the off-season. The two biggest names that they hope to retain will be wide receiver Curtis Samuel and right tackle Taylor Moton.

Lost revenue due to COVID-19 will impact every team, but with so many free agents the likely drop in the league wide salary cap number could make things difficult. The 2020 number was around $198 million, while the 2021 number could drop to $180.5 million according to Over The Cap, but is subject to change.

The Panthers currently rank 16th in cap space, so there is money available to make moves, but they will have a few hard choices on the horizon.

Franchise/Transition Tag possibilities

The Panthers will be all in on bringing a quarterback in this offseason, as Teddy Bridgewater didn’t do enough to give the team hope that he can win longterm. They will need to give whoever that is help, and retaining WR Curtis Samuel and RT Taylor Moton. Moton is likely the more important player to keep around longterm, so re-signing Samuel and tagging Moton could be the way they go.
