Tale of the Tape for Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns

In the main event for welterweight title at UFC 258, Kamaru Usman will take on Gilbert Burns Saturday live from UFC APEX and available on ESPN+.

The 33-year-old Usman enters the octagon with a professional fighting record of 17-1, and is the champion of the welterweight division. He’s also ranked fifth in the men’s pound-for-pound rankings. “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman last fought at UFC 251 in July, where he defeated Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision.

Usman is a perfect 12-0 in all UFC-related events dating back to July 2015, with his only loss coming in 2013 at CFA 11 where he was defeated by Jose Caceres by submission in Round 1.

Usman will try to win on Saturday by landing significant strikes. He averages 4.6 strikes per minute, with an accuracy of 52 percent. But the veteran fighter only absorbs 2.17 strikes per minute, while he defends against them at 60 percent. Usman does not have that many submission wins under his belt, but he has a 3.44 takedown average with an accuracy of 50 percent.

As for Burns he comes to Saturday’s main event with a professional fighting record of 19-3 and is ranked first in the welterweight division. The Brazilian fighter last competed in May at UFC on ESPN 9, where he defeated Tyron Woodley by unanimous decision. “Durinho” Burns has won six-straight matches dating back to December 2018.

The 34-year-old mixed martial artist is a versatile fighter who will try to use grappling to his advantage. He averages 2.21 takedowns per 15 minutes with a takedown accuracy of 37 percent in the octagon. He also does a tremendous job landing strikes at 3.15 per minute with 37 percent accuracy.
