If you like exciting point guard play, you have a lot to look forward to in Wednesday’s Atlanta Hawks-Dallas Mavericks matchup at 7:30 p.m. ET. Trae Young will be facing off against Luka Doncic, and both third-year floor generals are capable of putting up big-time numbers. How do you go about building DFS lineups on DraftKings with two studs like these taking all the spotlight? We’ll go over some ideal strategies here.
Captain’s Picks
Doncic ($17,700) and Young ($16,800) both have ridiculous fantasy upside. Both of them have eclipsed 40 DKFP in 10 straight games. However, I prefer Doncic for two reasons. First of all, the Hawks’ defense ranks 29th against opposing point guards on draft, and Doncic can lean on his super rebounding if he has a cold shooting night. Young and Doncic are about even when it comes to assists, but young doesn’t average half as many boards as Doncic.
The third option I like for this matchup is John Collins ($12,900). Kristaps Porzingis ($15,000) is playing center, so Collins can use his elite athleticism to take advantage of Maxi Kleber. He’s gone over his season DKFP average six times in his last 10 games.
FLEX Plays
Jalen Brunson ($4,400) the Mavericks’ second-best playmaker and could get a nice bump against a team that’s been horrendous against point guards. Tre Burke’s role in the rotation is shrinking, and getting a player who’s likely to go over 20 min and is averaging just under 1 DKFP per minute for under $5K is a bargain.
Danilo Gallinari ($4,800) logged a season-high 25 minutes in his last outing and tallied more than 26 DKFP for the second time in three games. He appears to be bouncing back from the ankle injury that bothered him earlier this year and has a clear path to minutes at small forward and power forward with DeAndre Hunter (knee) out.
Fades
Solomon Hill ($3,000) consistently gets close to 20 minutes per game, but he’s fallen short of 10 DKFP in seven of his last 10 games. Even if his price looks great, I’d look to stay away from empty calories.
The Outcome
The Hawks managed to edge out the Toronto Raptors in their last game, but the Mavericks have won two straight and are completely healthy. The Mavericks have done a great job limiting point guard production, and Atlanta won’t have much of a chance on the road without a top-notch performance from Young.
