NBA MVP odds tracker: Giannis delivers monster showing vs. Hornets

We take a look at the NBA MVP odds on DraftKings Sportsbook after six weeks of action.

Wednesday update: Giannis Antetokounmpo, currently third in MVP odds according to DraftKings Sportsbook, dropped 40 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in the Bucks’ 127-125 win over the Hornets Wednesday. With Curry having an off night Tuesday and Durant performing slightly below expectations, there’s a chance Antetokounmpo could see his stock rise as the odds get updated. The Greek Freak is currently +700.

Tuesday update: Kevin Durant had a relatively inefficient night by his standards and failed to hit a single three-pointer, but his 27 points and nine assists were key in helping the Nets grab a 112-110 win over the Knicks. As for MVP frontrunner Stephen Curry, he had one of his worst games of the season at the wrong time. The Warriors fell to the red-hot Suns 104-96, while Curry shot 4-21 from the floor and 3-14 from behind the arc. While these performances alone won’t swing the odds too much, it’s worth noting how even the Golden State star can have an off night.

The 2021-22 NBA season heads into December with Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry looking not just like the MVP favorite, but a player with a chance to repeat as unanimous MVP. Curry enters this week with a 33-point outing in a 105-90 win over the Clippers, also recording five rebounds, six assists and six steals in the win. Things are revolving around Curry so much that he was able to essentially taunt the refs with his own “technical foul” gesture after the officials had given him a technical foul earlier in the game.

At +135 currently on DraftKings Sportsbook, Curry is the runaway favorite to win this honor. Kevin Durant (+500) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (+750) remain somewhat a part of this race but that’s it. No one else has done enough to establish themselves as contenders through one month, and no one has had a start quite like Curry’s.

NBA MVP betting splits, Nov. 30

We’ve got updated splits on NBA MVP on DKSB at the end of November. It isn’t all that surprising that Curry is getting almost a quarter of the action. There is value in the names behind him, though. Giannis and the Bucks are getting hot and an ascent to the top of the Eastern Conference likely boosts the Greek Freak’s odds a bit. At +750, he feels like the best value on the board right now.

Jokic is the reigning MVP but his path seems non-existent at this point. He’d have to carry the Nuggets to the playoffs, which is possible. Still, Jamal Murray will be back at some point and that could hurt Jokic’s case. Michael Porter Jr. is probably not going to play again this season. Denver is in a weird holding pattern and could go up or down when we get closer to the deadline.
