Update Saturday 1:35 p.m. At halftime, Kansas is shocking No. 3 Oklahoma by leading 10-0. Right now Oklahoma is just a 7.5-point favorite on the live line at DraftKings Sportsbook.
While Jayhawks quarterback Jason Bean is just 6-9 for 63 yards, the ability of Kansas to run the ball and get off the field defensively has been shocking. KU is averaging 4.7 yards per rush, to just 0.9 for the Sooners.
The other big factor so far is penalties, with the Sooners committing eight fouls in the first half for 55 yards. Add the first interception of the season for OU freshman quarterback Caleb Williams, who is just 6-9 for 71 yards himself, and it’s a recipe for disaster so far in Lawrence.
We’ll see if the Sooners are able to wake up on the road at halftime and put away a team that is a borderline disaster. It is the first time Kansas has had a lead on an AP Top 25 team since 2014, and the Jayhawks are in search of their first Big 12 win in two calendar years.
The Oklahoma Sooners go on the road to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday, October 23rd with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 PM ET. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN.
The Sooners (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) look like a completely different team under freshman quarterback Caleb Williams and are coming off of a win against TCU. Williams threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns while rushing nine times for an additional 66 yards and another touchdown.
The Jayhawks (1-5, 0-3 Big 12) have lost five straight games after winning their season-opening contest. Most recently, they lost to Texas Tech 41-14. The Jayhawks' offense wasn’t able to muster much and were led by sophomore wide receiver Luke Grimm who had three receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown.
