The NFL regular season might be over, but that does not mean DFS is done. We have three wild card games scheduled for Saturday and there are a ton of DFS showdown contests for many people to get involved in.
If you are familiar with showdown contests, you have a captain spot, which is worth 1.5x points and multiple FLEX spots. If you pick the right captain, along with reasonably priced FLEX players, then you may find yourself winning some cash. Many fantasy football players put a quarterback in the captain spot, since they can bring in a lot of points. However, we are going to explore some other players who could fill that void.
Indianapolis Colts at Buffalo Bills
Gabriel Davis, WR, Bills ($7,200)
Many people playing this showdown contest will likely either pick Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, or Jonathan Taylor as their captain. And I would not blame them because all three players play significant roles on their team. However, a sleeper candidate for this wild card game is Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis.
With Diggs likely to draw a lot of attention from the Colts’ defense, someone else will need to step up. That someone could be Davis, who will likely see an uptick in production with Cole Beasley dealing with a knee injury. In Week 17, Davis had two receptions (five targets) for 107 yards and a touchdown. While the receptions are not where you may want them, Davis still recorded 21.7 fantasy points. He has also scored four touchdowns in the last six games.
Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks
Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams ($11,700)
This is another game where many DFS player will opt to either take Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett or Robert Woods. However, the Rams are getting major piece of their offense back in wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
Kupp missed the regular-season finale as he was one of the reserve/COVID-19 list. But when he played against the Seahawks in Week 16, Kupp had eight receptions (nine targets) for 66 yards. Despite not scoring a touchdown, the veteran wideout still pulled in 14.6 fantasy points. It was the third time in four games that Kupp had at least 14 fantasy points.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Football Team
Ronald Jones, RB, Buccaneers ($10,800)
In the final playoff game on Saturday night, we have the Bucs taking on the Football Team. Most DFS players will likely select either Tom Brady, Antonio Brown, or Chris Godwin in their captain spot. But one player who might make a huge difference on the ground is Ronald Jones II.
The 23-year-old running back made his return to the field last week after missing the last two games because of the COVID-19 list and injuries. In Week 17 against the Falcons, Jones had 78 rushing yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. For his efforts, the young running back scored 13.8 fantasy points, making it his third-straight game with double-digit fantasy points. He’ll likely get a good amount of carries on Saturday night to help slow down WFT’s pass rush.
