Starter update: John Wolford will start and Jared Goff will serve as the backup, per Jay Glazer hearing from Sean McVay.
Game status: Jared Goff is ACTIVE and Blake Bortles is inactive. With Bortles inactive, that leaves the Rams with just Goff and John Wolford, which would suggest Goff is healthy enough to play. If that’s the case, one has to think he could start, but there is no word yet.
The Los Angeles Rams have yet to name a starting quarterback for Saturday’s playoff game versus the Seattle Seahawks. Jared Goff remains a game-time decision while John Wolford waits in the wings. How should DFS players navigate this situation?
Fantasy Football analysis: Rams QBs Jared Goff ($6,000), John Wolford ($4,900)
Goff is less than two weeks removed from surgery to correct the thumb on his throwing hand, which he fractured and dislocated during the Rams’ loss to the Seahawks in Week 16. He has been a limited participant in practices and is officially listed as questionable for Saturday. Wolford stepped in for Goff last week against the Cardinals. He was serviceable in his first NFL regular-season game, completing 22 of 38 passes for 231 yards. He also ran for 56 yards on six carries. He threw one interception and no touchdowns as the Rams’ defense and kicking game provided all the points in their playoff-clinching victory.
No matter who starts behind center, the Rams will be facing a pass defense that is much-improved from its early-season struggles. The Seahawks have allowed just three passing touchdowns in their past five games. That includes holding Goff to just 234 scoreless yards and an interception during that Week 16 win in Seattle. They have also given up just 14 points per game over their past six.
Even a healthy Jared Goff hasn’t provided much for fantasy owners of late. Prior to Week 16, he had recorded four touchdown passes in his previous four games.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Goff is not worth your time at clearly less than 100 percent this week. Despite the injury, he’s more expensive than Philip Rivers ($5,500). Frankly, Wolford has more appeal as a punt play in tournaments simply because of his rushing upside. He’s $200 cheaper than every other starting QB on the six-game slate.
