The SEC basketball season is still quite young with teams playing a maximum of three conference games so far, but the odds have been updated for which team will win the SEC Tournament and get the conference’s automatic bid.
The Tennessee Volunteers are the favorites as of now at +200. Tennessee is currently ranked ninth in the country, which is the highest of any team in the SEC. Its most impressive win so far came the day before New Year’s Eve when the Volunteers beat Missouri by 20 points on the road. The team has seven players averaging 7.8 points or more and is led by Victor Bailey Jr., averaging 13.4 points per game, so this is a very balanced scoring team.
Despite getting handled by Tennessee in its own building, the Missouri Tigers are next in the odds list at +350. Ranked 13th in college basketball, Missouri already has two losses on the season with a defeat against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Tuesday. Junior guard Xavier Pinson is the player to watch for the Tigers. He’s leading the team with 14.8 points per game with 3.8 assists.
To round out the top three, the struggling Kentucky Wildcats are still in discussions to win the SEC Tournament at +520 odds in what has been a tough start for John Calipari and his group. The Wildcats are just 3-6 overall but 2-0 in SEC play. Earlier this season, Calipari asked freshman Cam’Ron Fletcher to step away from the team, but he has since returned for Kentucky.
So who’s on the bottom? This is not including the Auburn Tigers, which gave themselves a postseason ban, so the Vanderbilt Commodores have the worst shot at winning the SEC Championship at +50000 odds to shock the world. There are probably better places to spend your money even though Scotty Pippen Jr. is fun to watch, averaging the second most points and assists in the conference.
