Juancho Hernangomez stands out as quality mid-week waiver wire pickup

Timberwolves big man could be a valuable waiver-wire pickup while Karl-Anthony Towns is out of commission. He showcased his potential against the Nuggets on Tuesday.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Juancho Hernangomez had a day on Tuesday and is looking like a viable mid-week waiver wire target for fantasy basketball. The fifth-year shooter set the nets ablaze against the Denver Nuggets and could prove to be a force for a team that’s lacking depth in the frontcourt. Hernangomez erupted for 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting and rattled home five shots from beyond the arc. He also chipped in with 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in his team’s loss.

Hernangomez was Minnesota’s starting power forward but Karl Anthony-Towns’ wrist injury will help him get more minutes than usual in the coming weeks. Minnesota probably won’t get much from Ed Davis and Naz Reid, so Hernangomez’s sharpshooting could make him extremely valuable in the coming weeks.

Hernangomez is only rostered in 0.2 percent of ESPN leagues and is worth a pickup while KAT is on the mend at the very least. He won’t light it up every night but can be a solid utility option for the foreseeable future.
