Rookie wide receiver Tyler Johnson has caught just one pass in each of the Buccaneers’ last two playoff games. But each catch was impressive.
He displayed great hand strength on a third-and-11 grab early in the fourth quarter against the Saints during their Divisional Round game. That catch gave the Bucs a first down on a drive where they would ultimately kick a field goal to break a 20-20 tie and remain in the lead for the rest of the night. Johnson then hauled in a ball during the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship game for 16 yards, diving flat out in the process.
Johnson’s best statistical game this season came way back in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears. With the Bucs playing without Chris Godwin and Scotty Miller, Johnson set personal-highs for snaps (56), targets (six), receptions (four) and yards (61). He scored in each of the next two games, but otherwise, Johnson has just seven catches and no touchdowns from Weeks 8-20. He has played fewer than one-third of Tampa Bay’s offensive snaps in each game since Week 8.
