Coming into the 2020 season, many fantasy analysts forecasted Chris Godwin to be the main beneficiary of Tom Brady’s arrival to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Looking back on the year now, it looks like that was the case, in general. Even though he missed four games due to a concussion, broken hand, hamstring strain and/or quadriceps strain, Godwin caught 65 passes for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. If Godwin had been able to play 16 games like Mike Evans, who paced the Bucs in all three categories, it’s likely that Godwin would have surpassed him in at least two of those three.
Despite those myriad maladies, Godwin went on a four-game scoring jag from Weeks 15-18, reaching the end zone five times during that span. He set a season-high with 133 yards against Atlanta in Week 17, and came through in the NFC Championship game at Green Bay as he registered a 5-110-0 line on nine targets.
Evans scored twice when the Bucs and Chiefs met in Tampa back in Week 12, but it was Godwin who gained the most yardage of any Tampa Bay wideout in that game, catching eight of nine targets for 97 yards. Godwin should see a lot of safety Tyrann Mathieu during Super Bowl 55, much like he did during that first meeting.
