Directly following a tough loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship game, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ comments to the media had many, including seasoned Packers beat writers, wondering if he could be on his way out.
Rodgers then went on The Pat McAfee Show and pretty much set the record straight, saying: “I don’t think there is any reason why I wouldn’t be back. But look, there’s not many absolutes, as you guys know, in this business.”
Rodgers gets pretty philosophical about the situation and goes on for a while about the nature of the business, but ultimately tamps down the rumors. The interview is worth watching, as the quotes pulled don’t really do it justice. A headline can parse the quote above in many different ways.
In the end, Rodgers was never going to be moved by the Packers, but he does have the leverage to force himself out of Green Bay if he demanded a trade and played hardball. That doesn’t appear to be in his plans, so the rumors can stop until he wears a 49ers hat in public or wants to buy a home in upstate New York.
