YouTuber Jake Paul to fight UFC veteran Ben Askren in a boxing match

This is a thing so we’re going to write about it.

YouTube “personality” is now 2-0 as a professional boxer, and is coming off a big win over a former NBA star he turned into a meme. And now he’s back for more, this time taking on former UFC star Ben Askren in a fight scheduled for April 17th at a location to be determined.

If you’re curious (and if you’ve read this far, I mean sure), Triller is an app that musicians you’ve probably heard of (Alicia Keys, Cardi B, Marshmello) use to make videos. It’s kind of like TikTok with filters apparently. And the guy that bought it runs Warner Brothers and makes movies based on a model to turn a profit instead of any artistic vision. He must see dollar signs here.

Askren is 19-2 as an MMA fighter, is the former Bellator welterweight champion, but was 1-2 in the UFC before being released. He’s also a two-time NCAA national champion wrestler at Missouri, and competed in freestyle at the 2008 Olympics. He’s a real combat sports veteran, though not in boxing, and he’s also coming off hip replacement surgery.

So yeah, this is a thing that’s gonna happen. And if it’s good enough for the dean of MMA writers in Ariel Helwani, we’ll write about it too I guess. And we’ll post odds from DraftKings Sportsbook once they’re available.

Because we know you’re going to want to bet on it.
