The NFL wrapped up Championship Weekend on Sunday, and the Super Bowl 55 matchup is officially set. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play “host” to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2021 Super Bowl, playing the game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Bucs are the first team in NFL history to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium.
Odds opened Sunday evening before the AFC Championship Game had even reached its conclusion. The Chiefs pulled away in the second half and were installed as 3.5 point favorites when the line opened at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Oddsmakers work tirelessly to adjust to where the public is betting their money, and odds will fluctuate throughout the week as we get closer and closer to game time. Whether it’s injuries, coaching decisions or simply a large volume of the handle going on a particular side, line movement is a significant part of the sports betting game. Especially in football with games spread so far apart, there can be big swings in the point spread, creating tremendous value for those who got in early or are waiting to get the best possible number.
Super Bowl LV odds: Chiefs vs. Buccaneers
Opening odds
Point spread: Chiefs -3.5 (-106), Bucs +3.5 (-115)
Point total: 57.5 (-110 on both sides)
Moneyline: Chiefs -175, Bucs +140
Current odds (Mon Jan 25, 9:30 a.m.)
Point spread: Chiefs -3 (-117), Bucs +3 (-105)
Point total: 56 (-109 over, -112 under)
Moneyline: Chiefs -165, Bucs +143
We saw some early movement on the Bucs and the under in the first 12 hours after the line opened. The Chiefs came down half a point, but now the Chiefs are the juiced side of the point spread. The point total came down 1.5 points and the under is the juiced side of that number.
The Chiefs and Bucs played in Week 12 and the odds were similar. The spread for that game opened at Chiefs -3.5 and closed at the same number. The total opened at 54 and closed at 56. We’ll see some movement in the price for these numbers, but don’t expect a whole lot of change between now and kickoff. The Chiefs loss of left tackle Eric Fisher to an Achilles tear is a big deal, but with his status settled — he’s out — that won’t change much. Barring anything unexpected over the next 13 days, there shouldn’t be much change.
