How to handle Gabriel Davis injury in the 2021 NFL Playoffs

Rookie wideout Gabriel Davis has grown increasingly important to the Bills’ passing game but could miss the AFC Championship Game with an ankle injury.

Game status: Gabriel Davis is ACTIVE for the AFC title game.

Game day update: Davis is “very iffy for the game,” per Chris Mortensen. Kenny Stills got work in Davis’ spot on the days Davis did not practice.

The Buffalo Bills have returned to the AFC Championship Game for the first time since Jim Kelly led the team to its last Super Bowl nearly three decades ago. Most of the Bills’ key players will suit up for Sunday’s matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, but one of their young playmakers could miss the game with an ankle injury.

Fantasy impact: Gabriel Davis (ankle)

Prior to the ankle injury, Davis appeared headed for a breakout. The rookie wide receiver produced 192 yards and a touchdown between the regular-season finale and the Bills’ wild-card round matchup with the Indianapolis Colts, a stellar back-to-back showing for any player.

However, Davis disappeared from the stat sheet during last week’s matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, turning none of his four targets into a reception and seeing no work in the running game. Davis also played on less than half of the Bills’ offensive snaps, his first time failing to reach that mark since early November.

Davis did not practice in any form on Wednesday and Thursday but did manage to return in a limited capacity on Friday. For a veteran, that might have proven good enough to suit up on Sunday. It remains unclear whether head coach Sean McDermott will let a first-year player take part in a conference championship game given so little on-field preparation.
