The NFL regular season might be over, but that does not mean DFS is done. On Sunday night we have the AFC Championship Game to watch and there are a ton of DFS showdown contests for many people to get involved in.
If you are familiar with showdown contests, you have a captain spot, which is worth 1.5x points and multiple FLEX spots. If you pick the right captain, along with reasonably priced FLEX players, then you may find yourself winning some cash. Many fantasy football players put a quarterback in the captain spot, since they can bring in a lot of points. However, we are going to explore some other players who could fill that void.
Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs
Cole Beasley, WR, Bills ($7,500)
Typically, when we pick a captain, we try and keep the price under $10,000. So Cole Beasley should fit right within the budget for DFS players while still having enough left over to field a well-rounded team.
Beasley has been Bills QB Josh Allen’s safety net this season. He doesn't get a ton of big plays yardage wise, but Allen looks to him so frequently in do-or-die situations. He’s been productive wherever they play, but he’s extremely productive when the Bills are on the road. In away games this year he has 67 targets and 56 receptions, including three of his four touchdown catches on the year. His lone touchdown at home came in Week 6 against Kansas City. He has been questionable this week with a knee injury, but it’s tough to imagine one of the Bills' most reliable weapons doesn’t play in this game.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, Kansas City ($10,800)
Edwards-Helaire is a talented running back and the Bills tend to struggle to stop players like that. Buffalo has the 12th worst rushing defense in the NFL this season and allows over 120 yards per game on the ground. He also absolutely shredded the Bills in their Week 6 meeting, running for 161 yards on the ground.
Buffalo has gotten better against the run since that day, but the Week 6 meeting was the Bills' worst of the season on defense, particularly on the ground. It makes you believe that KC head coach Andy Reid and his staff found something they could exploit and it wouldn't be surprising if they do it again on Sunday.
