Tale of the Tape for Matt Frevola vs. Ottman Azaitar

UPDATE: This bout has been canceled because of undisclosed issues for Matt Frevola. It will be replaced on the main card by middleweights Andrew Sanchez and Makhmud Muradov.


In a lightweight bout on the main card of UFC 257, Matt Frevola will fight Ottman Azaitar Saturday at UFC Fight Island and available on ESPN+ PPV.

The 30-year-old Frevola walks into the octagon with a professional fighting record of 8-1-1 and a two-match winning streak. This will be Frevola’s first fight since October 2019 at UFC Fight Night 161. The New York native was suppose to compete multiple times last year but dealt with postponements, including one in September at UFC Fight Night 177. Frevola was set to fight Roosevelt Roberts, but dropped out because of an injury.

In his last bout at UFC Fight Night 161, “The Steamrolla” defeated Luis Pena by split decision. The 5-foot-9 fighter lands 3.19 significant strikes per minute, with a 39 percent accuracy. He also absorbs 3.47 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 60 percent.

Frevola can also wrestle inside the octagon with a takedown average per 15 minutes of 3.30, and an accuracy of 40 percent. He also boasts a solid 1.4 submission average per 15 and a takedown defense of 75 percent.

As for Azaitar, he enters Fight Island with a perfect professional fighting record of 13-0. The 30-year-old from Germany last fought at UFC Fight 177 in September 2020. At that event, he defeated Khama Worthy in Round 1 by technical knockout. Despite this being only his third-ever UFC fight, Azaitar has 10 TKO/KO victories in his pro career.

Before competing in UFC, the “Bulldozer” fought at Brave Combat Federation, German MMA Championship, Fair Fighting Championship, Tempel Fight School, and Showdown Fight Club. Over his two UFC fights, Azaitar is landing 8.43 strikes per minute, along with a 57 percent striking accuracy. Additionally, he has only absorbed 1.76 strikes per minute and does a good job defending against them at 67 percent.
