The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs square off Sunday evening with a spot in Super Bowl 55 on the line. The Chiefs are looking to keep alive their chance at a Super Bowl repeat while the Bills hope to earn their first berth in the big game since 1993.
The Bills opened as favorites in this game due to Patrick Mahomes’ suffering a head injury in the Chiefs’ Divisional round win over the Browns. He was placed in the concussion protocol, and while it was later reported it might have been a nerve injury as opposed to a concussion, opening lines reflected uncertainty around Mahomes’ status.
The line quickly moved, like within a matter of minutes. Oddsmakers work tirelessly to adjust to where the public is betting their money, and odds will fluctuate based on injury news and betting handle. In this case, they moved quickly to as much as Chiefs -3.5 before settling at Chiefs -3. It has not seen movement since Sunday evening.
The point total opened at 50.5 and that too has seen considerable movement. It has settled at 54 in light of the optimistic news around Mahomes’ status. In a regular season week, odds for this game would probably not have opened on Sunday given the uncertainty. But with this only one of two playoff games on Sunday, oddsmakers felt obligated to get a line out to start taking in wagers as quickly as possible.
Here is how the betting lines have moved since the matchup was set for the AFC title game as the Buffalo Bills travel to face the Kansas City Chiefs. All odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
AFC Championship odds: Bills vs. Chiefs
