Game day update: As of 10 a.m. ET, it’s snowing and 28 degrees in Green Bay. The National Weather Service is projecting the snow to turn into scattered flurries between noon and 2pm with a high near 30. Wind will come in from the south at 7 to 10 mph and turning into the west by the afternoon. Snow likely won’t accumulate more than an inch.
Friday AM update: The forecast in Green Bay is calling for more precipitation in the updated forecast. Snow is now likely, with the possibility that the snow could change to freezing drizzle as the temperatures warm up around game time. The good news is that wind is supposed to stay around 5-7 mph and the temperatures will be just below freezing.
With a heated field and temperatures around 30, I don’t expect the freezing drizzle to give us another Ice Bowl. There will be plenty of pre-game looks at the field to see if the snow can accumulate, but overall, I still think we see relatively okay weather for football.
Last weekend, it was a cold day at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin as the No. 1 seed Packers defeated the No. 6 seed Los Angeles Rams 32-18 in the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs.
On Sunday afternoon, the Packers will take on the No. 5 seed Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship game. This is second-straight year that Green Bay has reached the NFC title game. And this is a rematch from earlier this season, where the Bucs defeated the Packers 38-10 down in Tampa Bay at Raymond James Stadium.
Last week, the Bucs received a tremendous performance from their defense as they forced the Saints into four turnovers, leading to a 30-20 victory. Out of those four turnovers, the Bucs’ defense forced Saints quarterback Drew Brees into three interceptions. Tampa Bay will need that same type of performance against Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was locked in versus the Rams’ stout defense.
Green Bay, Wisconsin Forecast: Sunday, 1/24, 3:05 p.m. ET
Temperature: 29 degrees
Wind: 5 mph
Precipitation: Cloudy
As of right now, there should not be any snow showers by game time, but it will be cold in the frozen tundra. With temperatures below the freezing mark, it might be tough to catch the football, especially if you are not used to playing in the cold. But Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady should not have any issues as they’ve competed in this weather before. Also, what will help both teams is that they two solid running games led by Aaron Jones and Leonard Fournette.
