Everything you need to know for Bills vs. Chiefs in the AFC Championship

The Buffalo Bills will travel to face the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC Championship in the 2021 NFL Playoffs. The game is scheduled for Sunday, January 24 with kickoff set for 6:40 p.m. ET. The game will air on CBS. The winner of this matchup will be heading to Super Bowl 55, taking place in Tampa Bay, Florida.

How the Bills and Chiefs got here

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Baltimore Ravens at home in the Divisional round, in a defensive struggle that totaled just 20 points. Though the Ravens limited QB Josh Allen to his fourth-fewest passing yards on the season, fourth game with fewer than two touchdowns and just 3 total rushing yards. Their defense contained Lamar Jackson in a way we hadn’t seen all season, holding him to just 34 rushing yards — the second fewest he’s had in any outing in the 2020 season.

The Chiefs had a close call in the Divisional round, as the Cleveland Browns emerged with more fight than most may have projected. They emerged with a 22-17 victory as Chad Henne stepped in for an injured Patrick Mahomes to close out the game. Mahomes suffered a toe injury prior to leaving that Divisional round matchup with a concussion, and it’s unclear if he’ll be available to suit up for Sunday’s game. If he is, we could see Mahomes limited in terms of mobility, though a limitation for one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL may not mean much to the Bills.

Despite each team’s proficiencies on offense, both the Chiefs and Bills have key defensive pieces that may present their challenges that will make this a matchup for the ages.
