One of the biggest mixed martial arts fights of 2021 will be one of the first, as Conor McGregor takes on Dustin Poirier as the main event of UFC 257 this Saturday on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi at the brand new Etihad Arena. The event will air on ESPN+ with the main card starting at 10 p.m. ET.
McGregor enters with a 22-4 MMA record, and is just 32-years-old. He’s been in an UFC octagon just five times since 2015, but is still the No. 4 ranked lightweight in the promotion, and the No. 12 pound-for-pound fighter as well. His last bout was over a year ago, where he beat Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in just 40 seconds by TKO. Prior to that he lost to current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in a lightweight championship fight that turned into a mini-riot.
Poirier has won six of his last seven bouts, and is ranked No. 2 in the division and No. 7 pound-for-pound despite being the big underdog in this fight. He’s won six of his last seven, with an overall record of 26-6 as a pro MMA fighter. His latest loss is also to the undefeated Khabib, but he knocked off Dan Hooker via unanimous decision last June during his latest trip to the octagon. The Carencro, Louisiana native has 19 stoppages in his 26 career victories.
