Final update: The cut line is -4. 73 golfers made the cut.
The PGA Tour is set to tee off the second round of the 2021 Sony Open on Friday in Honolulu at 7:10 a.m. Honolulu time (12:10 p.m. ET). The day will open with a three-way tie atop the leaderboard featuring Peter Malnati, Jason Kokrak, and Joaquin Niemann all sitting at -8. Kokrak tees off at 7:50 a.m., Niemann at 8 a.m., and Malnati at noon.
There’s 18 holes to be played on Friday and half or more of the field could be headed home. We’ll be tracking the cut line as Friday’s play gets underway.
How is the cut line determined?
The cut line at 36 holes is the top 65 players plus those tied at the end of that group. Some tournaments will have a second cut after day three (54 holes) if that initial group is 78 total players, but the Sony Open does not use that rule.
What is the projected cut for the Sony Open?
Heading into the second round, the cut line is projected at -2. There are currently 71 golfers projected to make the cut at that number, with 17 golfers tied at -2. 27 golfers head into the second round at -1.
Who is not projected to make the cut?
Some notable names on the wrong side of the cut line include Adam Scott, Jim Furyk, Sepp Straka, and Kevin Kisner at +1, and Sergio Garcia and Matt Kuchar at even.
