Friday update: Watkins was unable to practice on Friday and is listed as out on the final injury report, while Tyreek Hill isn’t on the injury report and is ready to roll. Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson should both get a slight bump in usage.
Thursday update: Watkins did not practice on Thursday, per Sam McDowell. His status is trending in the wrong direction for Sunday.
The Kansas City Chiefs have returned to practice after their first-round bye, but wide receiver Sammy Watkins appears to still be dealing with a calf injury he suffered in Week 15, per The Athletic’s Nate Taylor. Tyreek Hill on the other hand, was at practice after nursing a hamstring injury to end the season.
There is no doubt that Hill will play as long as he doesn’t have any setbacks in practice, but we’ll need to see Watkins get back to practice soon for him to have a chance to go against the Browns on Sunday.
With Watkins out, we’ve seen DeMarcus Robinson get the bump in snaps, but Mecole Hardman and Robinson usually split those extra targets, giving neither a big fantasy football bump. But, if you’re looking for upside, Hardman remains the best bet for long touchdowns.
Hill was his usual dominant self this season and with Week 17 and the bye week to rest his hamstring, he and Travis Kelce will once again be Patrick Mahomes’ top targets this week.
