Tracking Mac Jones’ performance in the CFP National Championship vs. Ohio State

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is a Heisman finalist and is looking to lead Alabama to the national title. We’ll track his performance throughout the National Championship.

Final Update — Jones set the College Football Playoff National Championship record with 464 passing yards. He threw for five scores and completed 80 percent of throws en route to Alabama’s 52-24 victory.

Third-quarter update — Jones is still on a roll and hurled his fifth touchdown pass in the third quarter. Slade Bolden was on the receiving end of Jones’ throw and his catch gave him the first touchdown of his collegiate career. Jones has thrown for 454 yards and five scores on 35-of-43 passing.

Halftime update — Jones is lighting Ohio State up and has thrown for 242 yards and four touchdowns at the break. He’s been extremely efficient through the air and has completed 25 of his 32 attempts.

First-quarter update — Jones was 11-for-13 passing for 122 yards in the first quarter. he nearly threw a touchdown pass, but it was ruled just short. He opened up the second quarter with a five-yard touchdown pass to Devonta Smith and gave Alabama a 14-7 lead.

Jones thrived when throwing to Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith during the regular season and the return of Jaylen Waddle could give him a boost as a passer against an Ohio State defense that gave up just 9 passing touchdowns in six regular-season games.
