Friday update: Bruce Arians says that Ronald Jones was better in practice on Friday, but is still considered a game-time decision, per Rick Stroud. Arians went on to say that Leonard Fournette would get the start against the Saints no matter Jones’ status against the Saints.
Thursday update: Jones returned to practice on Thursday in limited fashion.
Wednesday update: Ronald Jones didn’t practice on Wednesday, but coach Bruce Arians says he is getting better and is hopeful he’ll practice on Thursday, per Joey Knight.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones had his quad swell on him last Saturday, pushing him to sit for their game against Washington. Coach Bruce Arians doesn’t know if Jones will be able to go in the Divisional Round against the New Orleans Saints, per NFL Network’s James Palmer. At this point, it looks like Jones will need to get the swelling down and be able to practice without the problem reoccurring.
Backup running back Leonard Fournette subbed in for Jones on Saturday and played well, as he rushed 19 times for 93 yards and a touchdown, while adding four receptions on four targets for an additional 39 yards. Fournette probably played his best football of the year last weekend and might have won more snaps moving forward.
Jones has been the better running back this year though, but if he can’t get his quad back to close to 100 percent, Fournette would likely get the nod.
