How and what to watch for Maryland vs. No. 12 Illinois

The Terps head to Champaign to take on one of the Big Ten’s best players in Ayo Dosunmu.

The 12th-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini will take on the Maryland Terrapins Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET in Champaign, IL.

The Fighting Illini (9-3, 5-1) are coming into Sunday’s game off an 81-56 victory over Northwestern for their fourth-straight win. In that game Illinois was down 15 points at the half, but they leaned on Kofi Cockburn who scored 13 points in the second stanza. He finished the game as Illinois leading scorer with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Right behind Cockburn in scoring was Ayo Dosunmu, who had 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds. As a team Illinois shot 49.1 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three-point range. Defensively, the Fighting Illini played tough defense on the Wildcats holding them to 32.7 percent shooting from the field and 30 percent shooting from three-point range.

The Terrapins (6-6, 1-5) lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes 89-67 on Thursday night, making it three-straight losses. The Terrapins had four players in double figures, including Aaron Wiggins, who led the team with 17 points. However, Maryland did not have answer for Iowa center Luka Garza, who had 24 points and seven rebounds. The Hawkeyes also shot 53.7 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.
